The next leader of the ACT Party Don Brash’s extremist views on race relations should be of concern to the current Government, Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei said today.

ACT’s Rodney Hide today ceded the leadership of the Party to Dr Brash. Media reports suggest Dr Brash was able to get the numbers for a takeover of ACT by appealing to ACT MP Hillary Calvert over race relations.

“Don Brash as National Party leader in 2005 helped divide New Zealand with his Iwi/Kiwi Billboards,” said Mrs Turei.

“Recent statements made by Dr Brash suggest that as ACT leader he will be quite happy to leverage votes from these same divisive tactics.

“John Key needs to stand up and reject Dr Brash’s divisive policies on race relations, something he failed to do when Dr Brash was his leader.”

“Dr Brash also needs to come clean about who his backers are this time,” said Mrs Turei.

“Dr Brash has after all just bought a political party as if it were a piece of plastic on a monopoly board.

“The public deserve to know who the banker for this operation is.”
