Far North wins bid for national conference

The Far North District Council has successfully bid for the right to host the 2009 Local Authority Community Development Conference.


The right to host the bi-annual event was strongly contested by both Dunedin and Christchurch City Councils at the 2007 conference at Hamilton last week.


Community Development Advisor Tania McInnes said today it was planned to stage the conference at Waitangi in September 2009.


“This is an opportunity to further showcase the Far North and to bring a rural perspective to national thinking on community development. It is also a chance to celebrate some of the wide range of projects and initiatives in the Far North which contribute to the wellbeing of our communities,” she said.
