More than 3000 ideas have already been posted on the Christchurch City Council’s Share an Idea website since it was launched six days ago.

The website, set-up last week to make it easy for Greater Christchurch residents to get involved in the redevelopment of the Central City, had 11,733 visits in the first six days with the average visit lasting for more than four minutes.

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says the response has been fantastic.

“It’s great to see so many of our community sharing their ideas for the redevelopment of the Central City. I encourage everyone to get involved and share an idea on www.shareanidea.org.nz or come along to the Share an Idea Community Expo at the CBS Canterbury Arena this weekend,” he says.

“If we are to create a Central City that is vibrant and prosperous, we need everyone to get involved and share their ideas about how they would like to see the Central City develop following the earthquake.”

At the Share an Idea Community Expo, from 10am to 5pm this Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May, video footage will show how the Central City looks today, residents will be able to redesign the Central City using Lego, record an idea for You Tube, learn more about earthquake science and be stimulated by speakers, images, words and questions to write their ideas on post-it notes, online or text their ideas while at the event.

Mr Parker says it is a rare opportunity to be able to redevelop a Central City and everyone needs to keep talking and sharing ideas in the coming weeks.

“What is important is we futureproof our Central City for future generations. Remember we need to be bold, visionary and create a Central City for the next 150 years.”
