There’s no stopping the 20th annual celebration of TV2KidsFest which will go ahead in July with an extra special theme of ‘Celebrating Community’.

TV2KidsFest is run each year by the Christchurch City Council and has become New Zealand’s biggest annual children’s festival aimed at all kids up to 12 years with an average of 75,000 participants each year.

Mayor Bob Parker believes TV2KidsFest will ensure local families have something positive to look forward to this winter,

“In light of the challenging times our city has faced since the September and February earthquakes, it’s more important than ever to host family events.

“TV2KidsFest will be a major city event and it’s an opportunity for our children and families to get some well deserved laughter back into our city.

“Local communities have gone through some hard times of late and I would like to thank all the community groups and businesses helping us create this year’s KidsFest and giving us all an opportunity to celebrate our community spirit.” Mayor Bob Parker said.

The 2011 TV2KidsFest will take place between 16 and 30 July with heaps of community events in Christchurch, Banks Peninsula, Selwyn and Waimakariri districts.

Christchurch City Council will host the main events including the official opening of the festival at the ‘Light and Flight’ Breeze Lantern Parade; The Press Dogs Day Out; Singapore Airline’s StarFest,

CoolStuff’s Variety Show, and the return of Bikes4Fun. Christchurch City Council’s events are free.

This year the KidsFest Dome in North Hagley Park will be the focal point hosting Science Alive!, Circus Symphony, The Kids Market and more.

Community run events are listed in four categories which will keep every family member entertained, from the sports buff to the young performer. Categories include:

• Knowledge and Discovery

• Sports, Games and Adventure

• Arts, Crafts and Creativity

• Plays, Shows and Young Performers.

Bring the whole family for some winter holiday fun and help Christchurch City Council make this year’s TV2KidsFest the best yet. Some community run events do have a ticket price, although many are free to the public.

A full programme of events will be available at www.kidsfest.co.nz by early June.
