Christchurch residents have already shared more than 30,000 ideas for the redevelopment of the Central City – 23,000 from last weekend’s Community Expo and 7000 from the www.shareanidea.org.nz website

With four weeks still to go, residents are being encouraged to keep talking and sharing their ideas as the Christchurch City Council begins work on drafting the Central City Plan.

The Central City Plan is being developed by the Council to guide the redevelopment of the Central City following the February earthquake.

To keep everyone talking, a series of public workshops have been set-up to run from next weekend (28 and 29 May) through to mid June. A number of stakeholder discussions are also being held during this time and residents are being encouraged to use the online tools at www.shareanidea.org.nz to initiate their own conversations with families, friends and community.

The two and a half hour public workshops are for anyone to attend but registration is essential as numbers are limited, says Mayor Bob Parker.

“To register, go online at www.shareanidea.org.nz or call into your local Service Centre and staff will assist you with registering for the workshop in your area.

“Our community has already shared more than 30,000 wonderful ideas but we need these conversations to keep going as we begin working on the draft Central City Plan.”

The public workshops are facilitated discussions, with participants working in small groups to talk about issues which have already been raised and to generate more feedback to help inform the draft Plan.

Ten public workshops have been organised to date. These are:
• Saturday 28 May, 2.30pm in North Beach
• Sunday 29 May, 2pm in Central Christchurch
• Wednesday 1 June, 6pm in Central Christchurch
• Saturday 4 June, 2.30pm in Wigram
• Sunday 5 June, 2pm in Central Christchurch
• Tuesday 7 June, 6pm in Central Christchurch
• Wednesday 8 June., 6pm in Cashmere
• Sunday 12 June, 2pm in Central Christchurch
