Rural Travel Fund assists 23 clubs

Far North sports groups will benefit by nearly $28,000 as a result of grants made recently from the Kiwisport/SPARC Rural Travel Fund.


The fund administered by the Far North District Council is designed to assist rural sports groups faced with the prospect of denying young players opportunities because of the high travel costs to get to sports fixtures.


Grants were made this year to a total of 23 clubs and sports organisations as follows:-


Te Hiku Ward: Mangonui School $615, Awanui RFC $978, Te Rarawa JMB Rugby $978, Te Rarawa IMB Rugby $978, Mangonui Rugby Sub-Union $978, Kaitaia Gymnastic Club $978, Kaitaia Intermediate School $1000, Nga Papahu Swim Club $978, Takahue Rugby Club $978, Eastern United Rugby Sports Club $978.


Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Ward: Whangaroa College $1000, Kerikeri Hockey Club $3000, Kaeo J & T Rugby Club $2500, Bay of Islands College $1530, Russell Soccer & Netball Club $3000.


Kaikohe-Hokianga Ward: Kaikohe Rugby Football & Sports Club $2300, Opononi JMB $800, Nga Kakano Hei Tiaki Charitable Trust $300, Hokianga Pioneers Rugby League Club $400, Horeke Netball Club $400, Ohaeawai Rugby Football & Sports Club $1400, Taheke Rugby Club $700, Otaua Sports Club $1000.
