First emerging themes from Share an Idea

Fewer cars in the Central City, greater use of the Avon corridor as a pedestrian/cycle route and integration of the tram into the public transport network are some of the emerging themes from the 40,000 ideas Greater Christchurch residents have shared for the redevelopment of the Central City.

Questions relating to the emerging themes are being uploaded and will begin to be explored on the www.shareanidea.org.nz website and at the public workshops from this weekend.

Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker says it is fantastic the number of ideas the community has shared and that 80 per cent are in line with the direction the city had been heading with its revitalisation in recent years.

“This is heartening and will enable us to quickly build on the work that has already been done.”
He says all the ideas are being read and considered by the team working on the draft Central City Plan. “Each idea is read, categorised and then analysed to help us establish the emerging themes to inform the plan.

“While we will not be able to adopt or implement every idea, our promise is we will consider all ideas.”
He says with the tight timeframes, work has already begun on formulating the draft Plan using the emerging themes which are coming through from the ideas already shared.

“During the next four weeks the emerging themes will be further explored online and at the public workshops. Each week we will have different questions for our community to feed back on.

“I encourage everyone to keep checking the website – www.shareanidea.org.nz - at least weekly and attend a public workshop to have further input into helping inform the draft Plan.”
