Christchurch residents have already shared 40,000 ideas for the redevelopment of their Central City.

Mayor Bob Parker says the result is outstanding. “It is great to see our community has such passion for their Central City and have embraced the opportunity to get involved in helping to redevelop the heart of our city for future generations.

“The Central City Plan is the most significant piece of work undertaken by Council since the first plans for the city were drawn up in 1850. As a city, we get only one chance to get this piece of work right and we can only do this with the support of our community.

“It is heartening to see so many ideas coming through. We need everyone to keep sharing ideas for at least another three to four weeks to ensure the draft Plan creates a Central City in which everyone wants to spend their time.”
Every idea received to date has been read, considered and analysed with the first emerging themes expected later today.

Mr Parker says the community will then be presented with a series of questions on the website and at the public workshops during the next four weeks as Council asks for further community input into some more specific questions relating to the redevelopment of the Central City.
