ISAF World Cup, Netherlands – NZL to feature in 49er and Radial medal races
New Zealand will be represented in the 49er and the Laser Radial medal races at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta set to conclude tonight in Medemblik, the Netherlands.
The strong winds which have challenged sailors most of the week were back on the penultimate day and racing was only possible in some classes overnight.
No racing on the 49er course sees Peter Burling and Blair Tuke go into the medal race in third position with no change to the standings or points since day four.
GBR’s Morrison and Rhodes lead the49er fleet eight points ahead of two-time world champ in the class Outteridge and Jensen from Australia. The kiwis have a nine point gap to close to catch the Aussies.
In the Laser Radial Miranda Powrie capitalised on the final day of series racing in the strong breeze she has managed to secure a position in the medal race. Lying 13th at the outset of the penultimate day she goes into the final double-points race, which includes only the top ten placed sailors, lying 9th.
With no further racing the Finn class Dan Slater has missed any chance to make the medal race, and he finishes 15th overall here in Medemblik before going on to Weymouth, UK for next month’s Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta.
Tonight’s medal races can be followed live on the regatta website.
