An online forum on Baring Head has begun this week, giving the community an opportunity to share opinions and ideas on the future of the site.

Cr Nigel Wilson, Chair of Greater Wellington’s Social and Cultural Wellbeing Committee, says there’s considerable community interest in Baring Head due to its iconic qualities and the potential for recreation, environmental restoration and tourism.

“The beauty of the online forum is that it facilitates community discussion – you can have your say, see what others are saying, and make further comments – so my hope is that a wide range of people use this opportunity to share their views and help us plan for Baring Head’s future,” Cr Wilson says.

Feedback from the forum will help to determine the content of a draft management plan for Baring Head, which will go out for consultation in late 2011/early 2012. The online forum closes on 31 July.

A consultation is also underway on Greater Wellington’s proposal to make Baring Head a scenic reserve. This consultation closes on 1 July.
