So you think you have a good idea for the Central City? Why not put it to the test and see what others think?

Magnetic South, a 27 hour online game to discover the best ideas for the future of Christchurch, goes live at 9am Tuesday 14 June.

The game, which is being run by Landcare Research, enables people to post their own ideas and then support, challenge or modify other ideas.

Bob Frame from Landcare Research says people will get the chance to explore their ideas for the Central City in a way that is both productive and fun.

“Participants will have a unique opportunity to discuss ideas and issues that relate to this important planning phase, which will impact on generations to come.

“With good participation, we are confident there will be real tangible outcomes for Christchurch.”

Council Central City Plan Project Sponsor Michael Theelen says this is another way people can engage with the future of the Central City.

“This is a great initiative and one that ties in nicely with the Share an Idea concept. Whether you have five hours or five minutes, you can explore what our future city will be like.

“But it’s not just a game – an analysis of the participants ideas will be provided to our planning team, making it a practical tool in this idea sharing phase.”

Magnetic South goes live at 9am on Tuesday 14 June and closes the next day (Wednesday 15) at midday. Participants need to register for the game online at www.magneticsouth.co.nz or www.shareanidea.org.nz.

The game runs on the ‘Foresight Engine’, an online platform created by US company Institute for the Future. Landcare Research and Institute for the Future have donated $75,000 in cash and kind for the recovery of Christchurch.

The Council is still collating ideas on its website www.shareanidea.org.nz and people are encouraged to get their ideas in by Monday 20 June.

Updates can be found on facebook (Share an idea), twitter (#shareanidea) and YouTube - www.youtube.com/shareanidea.
