HASTINGS

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule has invited high profile speakers from the New Zealand business and community sector to Hawkes Bay, as part of the Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Week.

In Hawke’s Bay, Leadership Week is supported by Hawke’s Bay Today and highlights the value that leadership provides for New Zealand. It also showcases the work being done to develop our nation’s leadership capacity with thousands of people from right around the country, taking part in a range of activities designed to inspire, develop and celebrate great Kiwi leadership.

Leadership Week culminates on Friday July 8th in red socks day, where everyone is being encouraged to wear red socks in support of the Sir Peter Blake Trust.

‘Women in Business Breakfast’

Former Iona College student Heather Shotter will be the guest speaker. Ms Shotter is the Executive Director of The Committee for Auckland, a nonprofit organisation which aims to make Auckland an exciting and dynamic place to work and live. Prior to moving to her current job, Ms Shotter was General Manager, Group Marketing & New Zealand Operations for Sky City Ltd.

‘Mayoral Leadership Summit’

Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe is the guest speaker at the FREE summit. Under Mr Fyfe’s leadership Air New Zealand has consolidated its strong financial position and won numerous international awards. Before joining Air New Zealand, he held senior positions with National Australia Bank, Telecom NZ, Bank of New Zealand and ITV Group in the UK. The summit will include an address by Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule.

‘Leaders of the Future forum’

The guest speaker at this FREE event will be the National Commissioner for SCOUTS New Zealand, Stuart Fleming. For over a century SCOUTS has given Kiwi kids the chance to learn life skills and challenge themselves, safely outdoors. After a period of decline, membership of the organisation is again booming. Stuart Fleming will discuss whether the need for leadership is experiencing a resurgence or are parents just sick of their kids playing Playstation?

Lawrence Yule says “the high calibre of speakers who have agreed to come to Hastings for Leadership Week, reflects the importance that is being placed on developing our next group of business and community leaders. The future of our country will be determined by the quality of our leadership and these events are an important step in enhancing this in our region”.

Last years Leadership Week events proved extremely popular and those wishing to attend are urged to purchase tickets or register now, as numbers are strictly limited.
