Social Impact study for Ruakura
The University of Waikato’s Institute for Business Research is undertaking a social impact study for the Ruakura area which has been identified as an important strategic growth area for Hamilton.
The study is part of a number of steps in the preparation for future development.
A structure plan will also need to be prepared as part of the city’s District Plan. The concept for the area includes an Inland Port and Logistics Hub.
Tainui Group Holdings Chief Executive Mike Pohio said: “The planned development is on land which was part of the Waikato Tainui Raupatu settlement in 1995 which incorporates Waikato Innovation Park, Ag Research and adjoining land. Adjoining land is owned by Chedworth Park; the owners plan to develop that area for residential purposes to complement the Tainui Group Holdings proposals.”
He said this is a long term investment by Tainui Group Holdings: “It is important that we try and identify issues through the study and develop optimal solutions in the final proposals.”
Hamilton Mayor Julie Hardaker said the Social Impact Assessment was being undertaken to gather people’s views and see how they think they might be impacted by the development.
“It is important to obtain such information from the community so that all stakeholders can fully understand the opportunities and concerns that people and businesses may raise as part of this study,” Mayor Hardaker said.
