Christchurch mayor Bob Parker has thanked Rotorua residents and the district council for the support and best wishes given to his city in the wake of February’s devastating earthquake.

In a letter to Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters Mr Parker said he was “deeply grateful” for the time and effort of specialists the council had dispatched to Canterbury, to assist with the rescue and recovery effort.

“I also wish to pass on my thanks to the people of Rotorua for their relief efforts and the hospitality they have shown towards displaced Cantabrians. Thank you again for your support,” Mr Parker said.

Mr Winters said he was proud of the swift and comprehensive response to the earthquake from the wider Rotorua community.

“It’s shows that our community is a caring one and can be counted on to rally round to help fellow New Zealanders in a time of real need."
