Farmers have jumped two places to be New Zealand’s fourteenth most trusted profession in Readers Digest New Zealand's Most Trusted Professions 2011.

“As the fourteenth most trusted profession in New Zealand, this is the best result for farmers since 2008,” says Don Nicolson, Federated Farmers President.

“Farmers are more trusted than judges and dentists and are just one place behind scientists. I think the professional company we are in is more than respectable.

“I honestly feel most New Zealanders trust farmers are hard working and decent folk who try to get ahead

“Politicians who have tried to build a profile by bagging farmers should really think hard on whether that’s furthering, or harming their public standing. I personally think it’s an own goal.

“As I prepare to leave office as Federated Farmers President, I’m pleased to see farming heading up the most trusted professions list,” Mr Nicolson concluded.
