Work to clear a large landslip on the lower section of Clifton Terrace that happened last week will not be carried out until it is safe for contractors to work in the area.

The Christchurch City Council has received a number of calls requesting information about the slip on Clifton Terrace since it occurred as a result of rock wall failure on Monday 13 June.

This slip is very unstable and affects a property above, which is being monitored by geotechnical engineers. It is considered too dangerous at this stage to remove slip material from the road. Once the slip becomes stable remediation work to clear the road of debris will commence, however no timeframe for this has yet been established. Residents will be informed when this is happening.

Alternative access is available from Summit Road via a single lane gravel road through Gethsemane Gardens which is being upgraded and is to be sealed when weather permits later this week.

Existing portable toilets will be serviced on Wednesday 22 June.

Kerbside collection of wheelie bins will be carried out on Thursday 23 June from the property frontage.

All Clifton Hill properties should now have water and should be able to use their toilets.

Heberden Avenue road closure

There will be a road closure in place on Heberden Ave between the Esplanade and Whitewash Head Road today (Tuesday 21 June) and Wednesday 22 June. The closure will affect the access to Scarborough and Taylors Mistake.

The closure will be in place between 9am and 3pm. There will be opportunities for access throughout the day.

The reason for the closure is to enable crane access to inspect the rock faces situation above the slope damaged by the 13 June earthquake. Minor rock scaling will be completed further up Scarborough Road at the same time.
