Climbers, anglers, walkers, runners, mountain bikers... have you discovered our newest adventure playground? Baring Head on Wainuiomata's coast, in East Harbour Regional Park. Greater Wellington Regional Council want's to know what you want to see in the park's future.

Baring Head has been open for four months. It’s a spectacular spot to visit, with stunning views, dramatic cliffs and the Baring Head lighthouse… But there’s still work to be done on a management plan, which will include guidelines for activities in the park.

Greater Wellington Regional Council has already completed some research on Baring Head’s environmental, historic and heritage values, as well as tourism opportunities, with part of the research including a public workshop in November last year.

Now the public has an opportunity to take part in an online forum on the future of Baring Head. Until the end of July, you can give your views on how the site should be managed and what sort of activities should be planned for the future.

The research, and feedback from the online forum, will help determine the content of a draft management plan for Baring Head, which will go out for public consultation in late 2011/early 2012. Baring Head is part of East Harbour Regional Park. You can visit Baring Head by following Wainuiomata’s Coast Road for 14km from the Moores Valley roundabout to the park entrance.

Take part in the online forum on Baring Head, and for more information, including reports on research into the site, see www.gw.govt.nz/baring-head.
