One step closer to kerbside recycling
Wakatipu residents are one step closer to kerbside recycling, with the delivery of recycling containers and recycling education packs from October 1.
“We expect that it will take about three weeks to deliver the recycling containers to all Wakatipu residents.” Queenstown Lakes District Council solid waste advisor Dr Linda Wright said.
Dr Wright asked residents to make sure recycling containers were removed from the street straight away and stored in a convenient spot.
“From October 3, we will have a team of people hiding all recycling containers so that, wherever possible, they aren’t visible from the street. Then the following day, the team will start removing all unclaimed recycling containers,” Dr Wright said.
This meant that once bins had been received, residents had three days to ensure bins were removed from the street and stored on their property. The intention was to keep residential areas free of clutter.
“If you know of anyone who is on holiday or away from home, please help by removing their recycling container from the street and storing it on their property. Otherwise the council may remove it before they return home,” Dr Wright said.
Dr Wright urged residents to contact the council if they hadn’t received their recycling container and education pack by October 19.
“We’re only a few weeks away from kerbside recycling. Remember to put your refuse and recycling out before 8 am on your normal refuse collection day. Recycling starts on October 22 so come on Wakatipu, Get it sorted!” Dr Wright said.
