The White Ferns beat India by 25 runs at the Clifton College Close Ground overnight to keep their hopes alive in the Twenty20 Quadrangular Series.

Earlier in the competition the White Ferns lost to England who sit on top of the table after they beat Australia yesterday. That effectively makes tonight’s clash between the White Ferns and Australia a semi-final with the winner going on to play England in Monday’s final.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the White Ferns who were kept to 125 for five after being put into bat but a strong bowling performance restricted India to 100 for seven.

Middle order batsman Liz Perry produced an unbeaten 48 off 41 deliveries after her side had stumbled to five for three.

Perry had good support from keeper Katie Martin who played sensibly for 29 off 42 and Nicola Browne who thumped 22 not out off just 15 balls at the end of the innings.

India never got going in their pursuit of 126 with Amita Sharma the only batsman who looked likely with 26 off 19.

The White Fern bowlers hunted as a pack with Browne picking up two for 17 while Sian Ruck, Lea Tahuhu, Lucy Doolan and Suzie Bates snared one wicket each. Pace bowler Ruck only conceded 11 off her four overs.

The White Ferns play their final round robin match against Australia in Taunton today at 11.00am local time, 10.00pm NZ time.
