MARLBOROUGH

Blenheim and Picton people using kerbside recycling get a pat on the back; the Auckland business buying our waste product says it contains some of the cleanest material they receive from anywhere in the country.

People are taking the trouble to wash and sort their recycling material and remembering that grease-stained materials like pizza boxes are NOT accepted.

The simplicity of our kerbside recycling has been one of the reasons for its success.

People have quickly learned that jars and bottles, tin, plastics and cardboard can all be disposed of in an environmentally useful way. The contents of the maroon kerbside crates are sorted by the collectors on the trucks before being baled up at the recycling centre in Wither Road and shipped to Auckland.

One thing to remember given the recent wet weather; very wet paper or cardboard can’t be sent on because it makes the water content of the bales too high. Please hold on to your paper material when the weather is bad and put it out the following week.

Annual rates for people living in Blenheim and Picton meet the cost of the kerbside recycling.
