Details of a proposal to create a new subdivision on Dillons Point Road are still being worked on but there will be further opportunities for consultation, as part of the long term urban growth plan, between Council and residents in the area.

Residents’ participation has been an important part of the process to date and there will be opportunities for them to make their views known in hearings on rezoning, said Council’s environment committee chairman Peter Jerram.

The proposed subdivision emerged from the work being done to plan for growth within the region over the next 20 years rather than see ad hoc expansion as the population increases.

“There will be no immediate decisions and we're certainly not trying to displace anyone. We're looking at the long term growth of Blenheim, something which hasn't been done for at least a century, and I expect the proposals will need some fine-tuning,” said Councillor Jerram.

Council and its planners have been running a public consultation process on the three separate stages of Marlborough’s growth and development strategy “Growing Marlborough”, of which the proposed Dillons Point Road subdivision is one element.

All Budge Street-Dillons Point residents, and those with an interest in any of the other development proposals, can be assured that any land use changes, for residential or industrial purposes, have yet to go through the full planning processes.
