Lucy Doolan scored a superb half century to help the White Ferns seal a 39 run win over India in the final round robin match of the ODI Quadrangular Series at Southgate, England.

With an ankle injury ruling out regular captain Aimee Watkins, Suzie Bates stepped up, successfully winning the toss and electing to bat. Her side racked up 201 for eight and then bowled tightly to ensure the total was beyond India who were restricted to 162 for nine in reply.

Opener Doolan stuck 76 off 125 balls on a challenging batting pitch and was complemented by Suzie Bates who hit 34 and Janet Brehaut who made 23 not out.

Indian medium pacer Jhulan Goswami made the most of seamer friendly conditions, claiming career best figures of six for 31.

The Indian chase couldn’t gather momentum thanks to outstanding fielding by the White Ferns who effected three run outs including Harmanpreet Kaur for 33 and Poonam Raut for 26.

Sian Ruck, Kate Broadmore and Kelly Anderson kept runs at a premium with all three bowlers picking up one wicket and conceding less than three runs per over. Nicola Browne returned tidy figures of two for 39.

The two teams meet again in the third place play of at 10.45am Thursday 7 July local time, 9.45pm NZ time. The final will be contested by Australia and England on the same day.
