PUBLIC submissions open on July 7 on a Draft Boundary Reorganisation Scheme for Manawatu District and Palmerston North City.

The proposed change (see map) brings some of the land from Longburn to Kairanga, through to and including Bunnythorpe, into the city, as well as the area between Bunnythorpe and Ashhurst. A small piece of land adjacent to the Saddle Road Bridge is also proposed to be transferred from the city to the district.

Any person or organisation can participate in the process with submissions closing at 5pm on Thursday, September 8.

Six public meetings on the scheme are to be held in Palmerston North, Ashhurst, Bunnythorpe, Newbury/Kairanga, Feilding and Longburn next month.

A Joint Boundary Committee, responsible for overseeing the process, will hear and consider the submissions between October 11 and 14 and make its decision by November 9 on whether or not the scheme should go ahead or be amended.

Copies of the scheme are available in Feilding from the MDC office in Manchester Street and the Public Library. Further information at www.boundarychange.co.nz or by contacting Janine Hawthorn at the MDC on (06) 323-0000.
