The White Ferns have gone down to India by 32 runs in the final match of the One Day International Quadrangular Series in England overnight to end the tournament in fourth spot.

India lost the toss and were put into bat on a tricky Aston Rowant wicket, compiling 150 before restricting the White Ferns to 118.

Opener Poonam Raut led the scoring for India with 38 while Veda Krishnamurthy (29) and Harmanpreet Kaur (21) also made useful contributions.

White Ferns pace bowler Sian Ruck was unplayable, bowling five maidens in her full complement of ten overs and conceding just nine runs.

Kate Broadmore was responsible for knocking over the top order and finished with three for 33 while spinner Lucy Doolan and Frances Mackay picked up two apiece.

The White Ferns appeared to be in the box seat at the innings break but Indian bowlers rattled through the batting line up in 40.3 overs.

The first four New Zealand batsmen were back in the pavilion with just 43 on the board. Captain Aimee Watkins was the batsman who looked most likely to turn things around but when she went for 32 off 24 deliveries the rest of the line up crumbled easily.

Seamer Amita Sharma and spinner Ekta Bisht were India’s leading wicket takers with three each while new ball bowler Jhulan Goswami picked up two.

Hosts England beat Australia by 34 runs in the final.
