The Howick Local Board of Auckland Council is inviting event organisers to discuss local events and how they are funded.

The invitation is to a public forum next Thursday, 14 July at 6pm.

Chairman of the board, Michael Williams, says events play a key role in promoting pride and a sense of place in the Howick Ward and a key focus of the board is supporting events that bring communities and neighbourhoods together.

“This forum is to find out from event organisers what they think a programme of events for Howick might look like, how we can help community groups and organisations work together to run top-class events and what funds might be needed,” he says. “We will also be covering how the contestable funding process works and how event organisers can apply for money.”

Mr Williams says this is the first forum to be hosted by the Howick Board’s Civic Functions, Events and Community Place Shaping portfolio.

The forum will be held at the Local Board Room of the Pakuranga Library. Space is limited so event organisers wishing to attend are asked to call Lee Madsen on 262 5793 or email events@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz by 12 July to secure a place.
