10-Year Plan gets down to business
The services provided by Hamilton City Council, along with funding and grants made to
external organisations, are the focus of today’s Council meeting.
The Extraordinary Council meeting which takes place from 9am on Thursday (14 July) is
the second of six between June and November which will provide guidance and
direction for the drafting of Council’s Draft 10-Year Plan 2012-22.
Council will be considering and providing high level guidance on the full range of
services currently provided to the city across 24 areas, and whether these should
continue to be provided at the same level and in the same way. They will also be
considering if there are other new services which should be provided.
Similarly, 38 areas of funding, grants, and other support provided to a wide range of
community organisations will also be looked at to see what should be reviewed.
In addition Council will also be considering a new framework for the funding of the
City’s growth and development due to a slow down in the economy and housing
growth and less than budgeted development contributions revenue.
Their guidance in these areas will then be used in preparation of the draft 10-Year Plan,
which will be considered by Councillors in December. Following revisions and
amendments it will then be available for the public to have their say from March 2012.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says: “Today’s meeting gives Councillors a first opportunity to
have a good look at the services we provide the people of Hamilton and the reports
provided by staff will be closely scrutinised. We will be providing an early direction to
staff about the business council should be to ensure our long term future as a smart and
thriving city is sustainable.”
