Tues, July 19 Napier

A lively crowd of nearly 1,200 people visited the RWC 2011 Roadshow in Napier with many fantastic costumes in support of France who play a match locally. Best dressed fans were Machala as the Eiffel Tower and Ian in a traditional French bathing costume. The morning was filled with great performances with a highlight at sunrise when The Rugby Haka and Hungi Festival performed a Haka on the beach with the flags of the 20 participating nations. There was a mixture of local and French cuisine with freshly cooked locally produced lamb and toffee-topped profiteroles. The Roadshow closed with Lilly the Lamb getting a photo taken with the Webb Ellis Cup!

Mon, July 18 Taupo

It was a cold and frosty start to week three of the RWC 2011 Roadshow in Taupo this morning, but that didn’t stop the locals showing up in full force. Wales was the theme of the day with lots dressed up in red and green and two lucky people winning tickets to Wales v Samoa in Hamilton. Sir Colin Meads showed his support and proved very popular with the crowd. Other highlights were a ‘horizontal bungy’ game with a Rugby ball and Masterchef contestant and Taupo local, Sarah Lee who whipped up delicious smoked trout treats. REAL NZ Festival events included Living Legends, who are managing 17 native tree planting projects during the Tournament, Sika showcasing and fly fishing.
