Exciting new concept plans have been prepared for a major revamp of Flaxmere Park.

Public input has been crucial in the design of the park and the final round of consultation is about to begin. This will ensure that the changes meet the needs of the community and the park becomes an integral part of family life in Flaxmere.

A number of changes have been made to the original concept following community feedback.

It’s proposed a paved pedestrian promenade will be constructed from Swansea Road to Flaxmere Avenue to allow easy access through the park.

A walking and cycling track will be built around the perimeter of the park and a new entrance is to be created off Henderson Road which will take park users to the duck pond.

Also included in the proposed plan is a new BMX pump track along with the construction of a splash pad, similar to the one which has proved very popular at Cornwall Park. The playground is to undergo improvements and a covered basketball court/ performance platform is to be located adjacent to the relocated skate facility near the Town Centre.

Flaxmere Councillor Jacoby Poulain says the upgrade of the park will work well with the planned changes to the town centre.

"Together, the two projects will ensure a new vibrancy rings around the suburb and Flaxmere residents will be able to look at the heart of their community with pride.”

“There is a strong community spirit in Flaxmere and we want to develop a village centre that meets resident’s needs,” Ms Poulain says.

Flaxmere Councillor Henare O'Keefe says "the improvements are another big step in the changing face of our suburb. The focus is on family and the park has the potential to become a centre for family life".

The concept plans for Flaxmere Park and submission forms are available at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/flaxmerepark, district libraries and from Hastings District Council offices.

Closing date for written submissions is Friday September 16th.
