Heat pumps are being installed in Council’s 177 housing for the elderly units to provide clean heating and warmer, drier living conditions.

Council is taking advantage of the EECA subsidy to help pay for the installation of the heat pumps. All the units have already been insulated through the EECA insulation programme.

Mrs Olive Sutherland-Waite of Council’s Harling Court complex in High Street tells Councillor Jenny Andrews that a toasty warm temperature is being maintained in her unit with the new heat pump. Councillor Andrews say drier homes have health benefits and that’s important for anyone with respiratory conditions and particularly those in the older age bracket.

Half the Council units now have the new heating; the rest should have heat pumps installed by October.
