Voice for youth

Are you between the ages of 12-24 and have a passion for youth issues?

Then Youth Infusion, Lower Hutt’s youth council, is for you.

Youth Infusion provides advice to Council on youth issues, contributes to youth activities, and raises awareness of youth interests and concerns.

They meet every week and have teams based on areas of interest such as education and health.

Leole Malama, 20, joined six years ago to develop her leadership skills and become more involved with issues facing young people.

“Youth Infusion has given me the opportunity to be a voice for young people, attend conferences and workshops, organise events, and gain new skills, knowledge and experiences.”

Last year Leole was appointed to the Northern Community Committee and received a Civic Honours Award for services to youth.

“Five members of Youth Infusion are currently on community boards or committees so it definitely provides a pathway for further public service.”

Leole has a message for young people thinking of joining Youth Infusion.

“Just do it! There are so many ways to get involved and contribute. You’ll also make a lot of new friends and have fun.”
