Dunedin Public Libraries waive fines in exchange for food
1– 31 August 2011

Dunedin residents have a one-time opportunity during August to wipe their overdue Library fines, by trading the fines for cans of food.

In the spirit of helping others out, the Library is joining local active Roteract group and Dunedin’s food bank collective, who will be delighted to receive the much-needed food to stock their community pantries.

Dunedin Public Libraries Head of Customer Services, Mike Collett, says “We would like to encourage anyone with overdue items to return them to the Library during August and take full advantage of the Food for Fines Amnesty. We want to make it easier for everyone to renew their use of the Library by encouraging those who have been unable to access our services to start visiting us again.”

How does it work?
• Return any overdue or lost Library books, CDs, DVDs or other Library material to any of our Libraries.

• Pay off overdue fines with cans of food - each can of food will reduce your fines by $5.00.

So check your cupboards for cans, and look under couches, beds and car seats for lost Library items and return them during August.
