Hastings District Council Group Manager; Asset Management David Fraser has been appointed to a newly formed government road maintenance taskforce.

Transport Minister Stephen Joyce has announced that Mr Fraser will join eight other appointees to the taskforce which will investigate new initiatives in road maintenance around the country.

Hastings District Council Acting Chief Executive Mike Maguire says “the appointment is recognition of Mr Fraser’s ongoing commitment to increasing the value for money which Hastings ratepayers receive from their spending on roading.”

“Road maintenance is a major cost for councils around the country and Hastings has been well served in this respect under Mr Fraser’s guidance. His experience and expertise in roading has now been recognized at a national level.”

The taskforce is to investigate road maintenance options which save money without sacrificing quality. It’s been recognized that some local authorities, such as Hastings are able to achieve far better value from their roading budgets than others.

The task force will start work next month and is expected to report its findings by April 2012
