A report on Blenheim’s town centre has been produced, giving a snapshot of the area’s business makeup, pedestrian flow, traffic and environmental measurements. The data was collated in December 2010 and shows:

  • Office and services (everything from banks to hairdressers) occupy 40% of the town’s prime retail space
  • Lack of shade and the lack of public toilets are two of the issues that people commented on most, along with the cleanliness of the streets, particularly after Friday and Saturday nights
  • The town’s hanging flower baskets and the development around the Taylor River draw many favourable remarks.

The report assesses the cleanliness and clutter of central streets, along with signage, traffic flow and parking.

It also includes data on footfall counts over the last 20 years. It shows that Market Street continues to be the town’s busiest street with the intersection of Market Street and Maxwell Road at Adams Place having the highest footfall count.

As part of the Blenheim Town Strategy prepared by UrbanismPlus, Council has approved a series of projects for the next few years, to be implemented as funding becomes available.
