  • Notice of Motion – consent for crematorium in Buchan Street, Sydenham. – the Council has asked staff to discuss looking at an alternative site for the crematorium with its owner. In deciding this, the Council noted that the applicant had complied with all the Council rules and policies relating to the consent for a crematorium.
  • Staff presented reports on progress with the infrastructure rebuild and the Performance Report for the 11 months to the end of May.
  •  Councillors agree on measures to reduce traffic congestion in the city, including a ban on a right turn from Harper Avenue into Park Terrace
  • Councillors were also told of a donation of $1.5 million to the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund from the Auckland Council mainly for the repair of parks and recreation areas damaged in the earthquakes.
  • The Council is proposing a permanent ban on drinking in public places in the Okains Bay area every New Year’s Eve. The Alcohol Restrictions in Public Places Amendment (Okains Bay) Bylaw 2011 will go out for public consultation 9 August – 12 September.
  • Temporary alcohol ban to be introduced in Hagley Park around the Event Centre to minimise alcohol-related issues during Rugby World Cup, Cup and Show Week, Buskers Festival and New Years Eve. Previously events such as the Buskers Festival and New Years Eve celebrations held in the central city were covered under the Central City Permanent Alcohol Ban Area which is in place 24 hours, 7 days a week. The temporary ban will apply from 7am to 10pm each day during the following dates: 9 September 2011 to 15 November 2011, 31 December 2011, subject to an event being held in Hagley Park and 19 January 2012 to 30 January 2012.
  • Council decided to terminate the buy-back agreement with property developer David Henderson’s SOL Development Corporation on properties Council purchased off him. Council made decisions in relation to two of these properties. At yesterday's meeting it decided to lease the Para site for a temporary high-tech park. Council also resolved to invite expressions of interest for development of the Sydenham Square site. 
  • Council staff to prepare a plan change to provide for the existing uses and additional business activity for the former Templeton Hospital site.
