The clock is ticking for those who want to have their say on the future of their local communities.

Submissions on draft local board plans – blueprints for Auckland’s diverse local communities – close at 4pm on Monday 8 August.

Auckland’s 21 local boards have each prepared a draft local board plan that sets out local aspirations and priorities and will guide decisions local boards make over the next three years and beyond. Local board plans will feed into other key Auckland Council plans, such as the Auckland Plan and 2012-22 Long-term Plan.

Auckland Council's Local Board Services Manager, Karen Lyons, says: “Draft local board plans break new ground in New Zealand local government, offering a unique opportunity for Aucklanders to tackle local issues and help shape the future of their communities.

“From protecting heritage buildings and the environment to promoting better transport links and building strong communities and vibrant village centres, these plans aim to capture the priorities of Aucklanders. But time is running out to let your local board know if it is on the right track. To seize this opportunity you must act now.”

Following the close of submissions on 8 August, local boards will hold hearings and then decide what changes will be made to the draft plan before a final version is adopted in October.
