The Napier City Council City Services Committee made a recommendation yesterday that will be implemented on 11 August following the Napier City Council’s Council meeting.

In response to both residents and road users requests, the Council will cancel the parking space that allowed for four vehicles parking along the west side of Milton Road.

This space will be replaced with broken yellow lines and the result means no parking at all along Milton Road west from Tennyson Street to Napier Terrace.

Mayor Barbara Arnott said “I think users of Milton Road will be relieved that all parking will be removed. Clearly the road traffic has increased and this final step is a good decision.”

In order to facilitate affordable all day parking for workers, concession parking on the Tiffen Street Car Park has been lowered to $4 per day and there is still room for approximately 20 more cars to be parked there.

With spare capacity at the Tiffen Street Car Park at a very low daily tariff and no observed resulting parking issues elsewhere, it is safe to say that the impact of restricting parking on the relevant section of Milton Road has not created noticeable problems in the system.
