Community Grants Allocation Sub Committee
$74,400 has been allocated to 46 different community organisations from Napier and Hawke’s Bay by the Napier City Council Grants Allocation Sub Committee.
“These grants are often a lifeline for the organisations who may get a small amount of the $74,400 because it has to go a long way, but we can fund expenses other funders do not. This is our community and these are our people either volunteering or getting some help. We need to support them” said Mayor Barbara Arnott.
Napier City Council has been funding community organisations for many years.
Approximately $450,000 is given for contracts to organisations that can be accessed by all residents, Sport Hawke’s Bay, Neighbourhood Support, Citizens Advice Bureau, Surf Lifesaving and Creative Napier. $1.30 per resident is provided for organisations who need help for projects or operating costs and the $74,400 is the basis of this.
Community people make up the Committee which allocates these important grants and the Council sees this local community knowledge as being crucial to the success of the process.
