Council is seeking expressions of interest for commercial land on Broadlands Road. The expressions of interest for the land start on Monday 1st August and close on Friday 2nd September.

The land is aimed at industrial businesses wishing to be located near the Miro Street industrial area or the East Taupō Arterial. The land is currently zoned rural, but is proposed to be rezoned Taupō Industrial (Sensitive) via Plan Change 29 of the Taupō District Plan. Plan Change 29 will be publically notified on August 12th 2011.

Strategic Manager, Business Development, Will Samuel, says the land gives Taupō businesses the opportunity to grow. Businesses from outside the district such as those from transport and distribution industry may wish to take advantage of Taupō’s central North Island location. Mr. Samuel points out that Plan Change 29 proposes to make retail activities on the land discretionary with the exception of the types of businesses that currently operate in close vicinity to Broadlands Road such as yard based activities, trade suppliers, service stations or food and beverage outlets.

Group Manager Corporate and Infrastructure, Alan Menhennet, says that with the ETA now finished, Council is now looking at surplus assets and the expressions of interest provide an opportunity for relevant businesses to indicate their preference.
