A new survey about young people will become a valuable tool to help guide Hastings District Council as they plan for the future.

The survey is being carried out by the Youth Council and aims to identify the issues which young people are facing today and their aspirations for the future of Hastings.

The survey targeted at 10 to 24 year olds looks at a range of themes including transport, alcohol and drugs and health and safety.

The survey will help the Youth Council in their work with Hastings District Council as they strive to make Hastings a better place for young people.

Policy Advisor for Economic and Social Development Nina Siers says "it’s important the young people of the district have a voice in future development. This survey will be of immense benefit in determining what young people see as important to them and what council needs to consider when deciding the way forward.”

The survey will also be of huge benefit to Hastings’ youth focused facilities, such as Splash Planet, skate parks, swimming pools and the libraries in their quest to ensure their services meet the evolving needs of local youth.

“The aim is to survey a wide cross section of youth to make sure the information we get back is an accurate and representative view of our young people” Ms Siers says.

The Youth Council will be surveying in public places and schools and there is an online version for adults and youth:

  • Youth survey (10-24 years)
  • Adult survey (>24 years)

All those who complete the survey and provide an email address go into the draw to win and iPod Nano or $50 vouchers from the Warehouse.
