No charge for steel and metal waste

Steel, metal and scrap metal (not including whiteware) may now be dumped without charge at the Resource Recovery Centre and refuse transfer stations.

The Marlborough District Council and its new contractor Metallic Sweeping (1998) Ltd have introduced the free service to residents and businesses wishing to dispose of unwanted steel, metal and scrap metal in the containers provided at the Resource Recovery Centre in Wither Road or at the transfer stations.

This is now a free service helping to promote recycling to the public of Marlborough.

Meanwhile, Marlborough’s recycled glass is now being shipped to Auckland and used to manufacture new bottles.

Since last month, the new contractor has sent four container loads of sorted brown, green and clear glass to the Auckland manufacturer.

This has cut down the volume of glass going into Marlborough’s landfill.

The contractors report that it’s taking as little as ten days from the time a glass container leaves Blenheim to the time that newly manufactured bottles are ready for dispatch from Auckland.

Contractor, Metallic Sweeping (1998) Ltd, is happy to take calls from local businesses wanting to make arrangements for their waste glass.
