A rebate on your household rates bills may be available to you if you are a Marlborough superannuitant or a lower income home owner.

Application needs to be made annually and applications can be lodged at the Council from August.

The size of any rebate is determined by the level of your household income and the level of your rates. Dependent children still at home will also affect the level of rebate.

To find out whether you qualify for a rebate you may phone the Council or use the calculator at www.ratesrebates.govt.nz

As an example, a superannuitant living solely on the pension who receives a rates invoice for $1800 may qualify to have that rebated by almost a third.

An application form is available from the Council or may be downloaded from www.ratesrebates.govt.nz . The Council will post out a form on request.

Information needed by the Council to process your application:

  • Your rates assessment (sent to you by MDC)
  • Information about your income before tax for year ended March 31, 2011 (including any interest earned or WINZ benefits)
  • If you have a partner living with you, we also need details of their income
  • You may claim the rebate at any time so don't wait until your rates are due. Bring your documents in to the Council in Seymour Street so we can process your case.
  • Rates enquiries to the Council, Ph: 520 7400.
