Marlborough District Council Mayor, Alistair Sowman and Mr Les Pye, Secretary of the NZ Korean Veterans’ Association, present a NZ Defence Service Medal to Ian Jacques, who served with the 10th New Zealand Transport Company, Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps in the Korean conflict in 1953 and 1954.

Mr Jacques has been a member of the Marlborough Branch Committee of the NZ Korean Veterans’ Association since 1998, standing down this year.

The ceremony was held at the RSA Lounge at the Clubs of Marlborough last Wednesday, 27 July, marking the 58th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement. That Armistice is still the only safeguard maintaining peace on the Korean peninsula today.
