WELLINGTON CITY

Wellingtonians have just two weeks left to get back to Wellington City Council on its 'Toward 2040: Smart Green Wellington' consultation.

Wellington City Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says this is one of the broadest public consultations the Council has undertaken in her time as an elected member.

"This is your chance to have your say on our city's future," she said. "What is decided from your submissions will guide Wellington to 2040 and beyond.

"Through this 2040 framework, we're asking you to look ten, twenty, thirty years into the future and tell us how you see the Capital growing. We want to hear ideas about how we align our economy with our environment - it's not about trade-offs or compromises, but seizing the opportunity for a smart, green and prosperous future.

"Do not pass up this opportunity to have your say about your future. Anyone can get involved, from children to senior citizens and from all walks of life. The information we gather will help form the Toward 2040 framework that guides all our Council strategies in social issues, technology, transport and others," says Ms Wade-Brown.

The Council has identified four goals to make Wellington a smart green city:

People-centred city - the aim is to be healthy, vibrant, affordable, resilient, have a strong sense of identity, and strong and healthy communities.

Connected city - this is connectedness in every sense: physical, virtual or social. Strategies like the Digital Strategy fall under this.

Eco-city - this is a response to all the environmental challenges the city faces over the coming decades, and the Council is confident we can lead the country by example.

Dynamic central city - this section largely deals with urban design aspects of the central city - making sure it's still a great place to be where new ideas happen - and maintaining its role as the creative and innovative force to drive the regional economy.
