Ouse Street Opening Delayed

The re-opening of Ouse Street has been delayed. Council's contractors had planned to lay asphalt today, but recent weather conditions including the snow last week, have meant the road has not been dry enough to seal.

Council Engineers explained:

"The gravel layer in the road needs to have just the right amount of moisture to achieve the right compaction. If the compaction is not at the right standard, then there is a high risk the asphalt surface can slump or break. We need a few days of favourable weather so that the road gravels can sufficiently dry. Sealing will be carried out as soon as the surface is ready".
