SUBWAY® Pro Cycling's Gough delivers podium result in United States
SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Westley Gough delivered a podium result in the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove’s opening prologue today in the United States.
Gough was third in a time of eight minutes and 28 seconds, only two seconds behind winner Karl Menzies (United Healthcare) and Tom Zirbel (James Sutter Home).
"I'm really happy to have come here and achieved a podium placing against such a strong field. I'm very motivated to hold my high placing on GC (general classification) over the next two road stages," Gough said.
It was the first time Gough had worn his SUBWAY® Pro Cycling black and white New Zealand national champion skin suit after winning the national title in January.
Gough’s team mate Nick Lovegrove said the team was “fired up to help keep Wes at the top of the GC sheet.”
The Tour of Elk Grove is a three day UCI 2.2 tour event featuring 15 professional teams, including Bissell Pro Cycling, V Australia, United Heathcare and the Jelly Belly Cycling Team as well as the Columbian National Cycling team.
It has one of the biggest total cash prize pools for an event of its kind anywhere in the world, and continues tomorrow with a 156 kilometre road race and concludes on Sunday with a circuit race.
