Work has begun on planning and designing a roundabout for the Tukapa Street/Omata Road intersection in New Plymouth.

Discussions have started with adjacent landowners regarding the purchase of pieces of land, with the intention of building the roundabout in this financial year.

Manager Roading Assets Max Aves says NPDC’s programme of roundabout installation is generally based on intersections’ crash history and traffic delays on side roads.

“A roundabout would make the Tukapa/Omata intersection safer and easier to use,” says Mr Aves.

This project follows the construction of two recent roundabouts: At the intersections of Tukapa/Waimea and Waimea/Brois/Frankley.
