A Shakespearean production, a community shed for men to tinker and network, and traditional
youth groups such as Scouts and Sea Cadets are among recipients of the annual Hamilton City Council Community Well-Being Grants.

Council has made grants to more than 130 organisations as part of the annual Community WellBeing funding round which saw $209,000 allocated. Thirty-four applicants received a total of $80,000 from the Maori and Pacific Projects Fund, while a further $43,000 was dispersed
through 31 Community Arts and Culture Grants.

Health, social service and church and school-based organisations benefitted from Community
Well-Being Grants. Grants to Maori and Pacific Project Fund recipients will go toward covering
costs incurred by several organisations’ volunteer staff and developing resources, while
Community Arts and Culture Grants included assistance for the creative efforts of choirs, theatre groups, and a short comedy film.

Councillor Daphne Bell, who sits on two of the three grant allocation committees, said: “It’s
always a great reflection on our community to see so many committed people and organisations benefit from our funding rounds. Many of the people involved in these groups are unheralded volunteers, and they deserve our on-going support.”
