MARLBOROUGH

Six Marlborough people have been presented with Civic Honours by Mayor Alistair Sowman at a ceremony at the Council Chambers.

Mr Sowman praised the recipients, thanking them for their contribution to the quality of life of Marlborough.

“Our wealth is in the character and talent and energy of the people like you who help our communities work together. People who share common values and purpose - and who think about what they can put in, rather than what they can take or what they are entitled to, or what they can criticise,” he said.

“You have all opted to do what few others manage; to give your dedication, your inspiration, your creativity, your kindness or your sheer hard work. We know that none of you has looked for recognition or thanks. But our community has had the benefit of your endeavours and you have earned our respect and gratitude for your service,” Mr Sowman.

The Awardees are:

  • Helen Knapp (Alzheimer’s Marlborough Inc)
  • Lynette Cook (Picton Foodbank and community volunteer)
  • Maureen Elliot (Blenheim Gymnastic Club)
  • Robin Bowron (community leadership Marlborough Sounds)
  • Roy Ramsay (Drug Arm van)
  • Roy Grose (Department of Conservation – Marlborough Sounds)
