An integrated development package will ensure the revitalisation of Flaxmere meets the requirements of the community.

The redevelopment of the town centre and Flaxmere Park are key elements in what is being seen as a new and exciting growth strategy for the village and are being designed in ways that are complementary to each other.

The town centre proposal has been widely circulated amongst the community and the Hastings District Council is preparing a plan change which will turn the designs into reality.

Hastings District Properties Limited has undertaken in depth work on the design and business case for the town centre. They have fulfilled the brief council gave them and council is very pleased with the work the company has undertaken on the project.

Decision making is now back with the council. Council is working on the required plan changes to rezone the land and the final design concept for the town centre. Property Company Chair Peter Snelling says” once the rezoning has been completed and the final design approved by Council, residents can look forward to ground work beginning”

Mr Snelling says” the design for the town centre has also taken into account proposals for the redevelopment of Flaxmere Park and together will create the high quality community that the people of Flaxmere deserve.”

“The town centre revitalisation is well overdue, and will become an integral part of moving Flaxmere forward. We are very excited at the prospect of job creation during and after the development which will ultimately assist in regenerating the economy of the village.”

“The Property Company is working hard with council to ensure that the development will support and enhance the potential we see in Flaxmere” Mr Snelling says.

Flaxmere Councillor Henare O’Keefe says it’s pleasing that council is able to incorporate designs for both the park and the town centre in one integrated package.

"The overall design will help revive and strengthen the fabric of the suburb and improve the quality of life for all residents."

Fellow Councillor Jacoby Poulain says” community requirements must be at the heart of the redevelopment. The aim of the new plans is to ensure residents will benefit socially as well as economically. Flaxmere is a special place with a unique character and that's why it is so important that we are clear about what we would like to see from any future development."
