Movie Magic Theme For Lions 202L Convention

“Movie Magic” will be the theme of the Lions District 202L Convention to be held at the Matamata Memorial Centre from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th February 2012.

Convention chairman Richard Norris said the host clubs for next year’s convention will be Matamata, Hinuera/Te Poi and Tirau. These three clubs have a collective membership of 94.

The convention will be opened on the Friday evening with a flag ceremony and motivational speaker. The theme will be about youth and the Lions involvement with youth in the District, particularly where Lions have made a difference to their lives. There will also be a cocktail party with cocktail food and a bar available.

The Saturday business session will feature the District agm and is always made particularly interesting with an internationally well know Lion providing an address as well as several other interesting quality speakers. The emphasis is on keeping members informed and giving all Lions the opportunity to raise issues for discussion. Morning tea and buffet lunch are provided.

There will be a programme for partners and on Saturday afternoon it is intended to take them to a local thoroughbred stud and the Firth Tower Museum.

The Saturday night entertainment will feature the “Movie Magic” dinner with entertainment provided and MC duties by Joy Adams who is a very funny and talented lady singer and comedian. The music will be provided by Tony Wellington (Stars In Their Eyes) and friends. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favourite movie character – clubs might consider a theme. Dinner is included and a bar will be available.

On Sunday there is a remembrance and rededication service. This is a time to remember all Lions who have died during the year and their families are invited to attend and receive a gift to remember them by.

This gift will have a Matamata flavour. Then there will be a rededication where a motivational message is given to ready Lions for the coming year. This will be followed by a buffet lunch.
 

Following the completion of the convention Lions will be offered the chance to go to the Hobbiton Movie Set. This will be at their own expense but at a discounted rate and transport will be arranged.
